The Lockwood Middle School 8th grade Communication Arts classes participated in the annual VFW writing contest again this year. The theme was "Am I proud of My Country?" Lockwood sent 18 essays in for judging and of 54 entries, two of our outstanding students took 1st and 2nd place in the county! These two essays went on to compete at the district level and came in 2nd and 3rd out of more than 100 entries!
Members of the local VFW hall came to Lockwood Middle School to present Cara Lagge with her first place certificate for the county and second place finish in the district and $175.00. Mr. Mike Bowman, principal of the Lockwood Elementary K-5 School, has published a children's book entitled Santa Came a Day Late. The story, which Mr. Bowman told students at the school, was turned into a book with their urging. Robyn Bingham, Mr. Bowman's daughter, illustrated the book. Christmas Story Leads Lockwood Principal to Write Children's Book
Congratulations to the 2010-2011 Lockwood School Board consisting of Tim Sather, Tamara Spillum, Becky Malenowsky, Sue Vinton, Greg Bochy, Peter Freivalds, Jason Hamrick. They were awarded the Golden Gavel Award at MCEL. Awards were presented during the Opening General Session on Thursday, October 20. The Golden Gavel Award is bestowed on those districts whose entire Board became "Certified" in the same 12-month period. This is the 22nd consecutive year that the Lockwood School Board has received this award.
Trustees Becky Malenowsky and Sue Vinton were presented the Marvin Heintz Award at MCEL. The Marvin Heintz Award is bestowed on those individuals who have reached the highest level of Trustee Certification through the School Board Academy Program for the training they have taken. Congratulations Becky and Sue!
