The Lockwood Schools Counseling Department provides a variety of services to support teachers, students, and parents. The counseling team is made up of Amy Wiggs and Jerry Zilkoski in the elementary school, and Mrs. Jayme Wilder for grades 6-8.
Lockwood Schools also has a Mental Health Team which includes the counselors and school psychologist. More about the team and what it provides for the students and families will be posted at a later date.
The counseling team helps to promote Red Ribbon Week each year. This week, which is usually recognized in the month of October, is a time devoted to creating a healthy, drug free future for America. Schools, community groups, governments, and business increase their drug prevention efforts in October due to this nationwide event. It is an ideal way for people and communities to unite and take a visible stand against drugs.
The Red Ribbon Campaign started in 1985, and has continued to be a tradition as Red Ribbons are displayed as a symbol of intolerance towards the use of drugs. The mission of the Red Ribbon Campaign is to present a unified and visible commitment towards the creation of a Drug-Free America.
Special events related to the week are posted on the Lockwood School Events Calendar.
The month of October is also National Bullying Prevention Month. It’s a time when communities can unite nationwide to raise awareness of bullying prevention through events, activities, outreach, and education. This campaign was created in 2006 with a one-week event which has now evolved into a month-long effort that encourages everyone to take an active role in the bullying prevention movement.
