Any person present who wishes to address the board or raise any question about public school district matters or governing policies may do so under public participation. No discussion of personnel or individual students is permitted at this time. A limit of three minutes is placed on each speaker. Persons who want more time may make arrangements to be placed on a future agenda. The public is also reminded that they may provide input on all motions being considered by the board at this meeting.

3. Items for Action

  1. Hire Certified Staff
    I recommend that we hire Emily Ruttenbur to a 158-day teaching contract starting October 2nd.
    She will be teaching the second STARS Pre-K class.
  2. Hire Classified Staff
    Information will be available at the meeting.

  3. Hire Substitute
    I recommend that Leah Redmond be added to the substitute list.

  4. Approve Changes to Bus Route
    I recommend the updated changes to the STARS bus route.

Meeting Minutes

CALL TO ORDER - 6:00 pm

Chair Tim Sather called the Special Meeting of the Board of Trustees to order at 12:04 p.m. by leading those present in the Pledge of Allegiance. The following trustees and officers were present: Trustees Tim Sather, Joe Borgstrom, Sylvia Noble, Pamela Ask, Superintendent Tobin Novasio and District Clerk Laurie Noonkester. Trustees Janna Lind, Kat Pfau, and Scott Kiekover were absent.

All guests are asked to sign in upon arrival.

Mr. Sather welcomed visitors and advised the following:

Visitors wishing to record this meeting electronically may do so providing the recording does not disrupt the orderly conduct of the meeting. As a courtesy, all cell phones should be turned off. The public is also reminded that they may provide input on all motions being considered by the board at this meeting.

INDIVIDUALS, RECOGNITION, ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND CORRESPONDENCE

Public Comment: None submitted.

ITEMS FOR ACTION

A. Hire Certified Staff

Primary Principal Jenny Fox introduced and recommended the hiring of Emily Ruttenbur to a 157 day contract beginning October 2nd as a teacher for the additional STARS Preschool Program.

Trustee Pamela Ask moved to hire Emily Ruttenbur as a teacher for the STARS Preschool Program as recommended. Sylvia Noble seconded the motion.

Trustees Tim Sather, Sylvia Noble, Joe Borgstrom and Pamela Ask voted yes; the motion passed unanimously.

B. Hire Classified Staff

Superintendent Novasio recommended hiring of Casie Hissom as a Paraprofessional pending the return of a successful background check.

Trustee Joe Borgstrom moved to hire as a Paraprofessional pending the return of a successful background check as recommended. Pamela Ask seconded the motion.

Trustees Tim Sather, Sylvia Noble, Joe Borgstrom and Pamela Ask voted yes; the motion passed unanimously.

C. Hiring of Substitutes

Superintendent Novasio recommended the Trustees approve the hiring of Leah Redmond as a substitute. Ms. Redmond has completed a successful background check.

Trustee Sylvia Noble moved to approve the hiring of Leah Redmond as a substitute as recommended. Joe Borgstrom seconded the motion.

Trustees Tim Sather, Sylvia Noble, Joe Borgstrom and Pamela Ask voted yes; the motion passed unanimously.

D. Update Bus Routes

Superintendent Novasio provided the revised bus routes for approval. Mr. Novasio noted these revisions are due to the addition of a second STARS Preschool class.

Trustee Pamela Ask moved to accept the revised Bus Routes as presented. Joe Borgstrom seconded the motion.

Trustees Tim Sather, Sylvia Noble, Joe Borgstrom and Pamela Ask voted yes; the motion passed unanimously.

Superintendent Novasio provided the Trustees with the findings regarding a recent dress code violation that has been a focus of social and news media.

Discussion was held on the Student Handbook Dress Code Policy. It was duly noted the Middle School Student Handbook clearly contains the dress code which both parents and students must sign off in acknowledgement they were aware of school rules.

The next Regular Meeting will be on Tuesday, October 10, 2017, at 6:00 p.m. in the Lockwood School District Board Room.

Trustee Pamela Ask moved to adjourn the meeting at 12:25 p.m. Sylvia Noble seconded the motion.

Trustees Tim Sather, Sylvia Noble, Joe Borgstrom and Pamela Ask voted yes; the motion passed unanimously.
